Where to go to get help with games & questions

Postby ErikE on Thu Aug 14, 2008 3:02 pm

I can't afford paying for go lessons at the moment. However, I am keenly aware that at times I could really use some expert commentary, especially on positional evaluation about moves in the early phases of my games. Where is a good place to get that? Are there strong players (1d and up preferrably, I am 7k on kgs) who are willing to do this kind of thing?

For example, I created http://goproblems.com/prob.php3?id=11642&undead=1 (which is in my sandbox, I am not sure if others can view it) for one such game. I am sure such a problem could be useful to others, but I don't know the best moves to enter, and it seems a waste of many people's time and perhaps misleading to just put my best guess up and wait for comments about how wrong it is.

You should try the go teaching ladder http://gtl.xmp.net/ . If you like you can also send the sgf-file of the game to my email adress: soeren dot o at gmx dot net. Else, what is your KGS-account? I am most regularly online with MeTryBlitz.

My KGS account name is ErikE. I am not on often because I have a wife and 2-year-old at home, and playing a game there requires undivided attention for 45 minutes or so, which I can't promise. And I don't want to rudely cut off games. So I've been playing on DGS lately where I can make moves when I have time.

I appreciate your offer to help me out and will probably take you up on it!

Erik

well kgs has the kgs teaching ladder room (under lessons), meant just for that... and if you have specific questions i'd give http://senseis.xmp.net/?bqm a shot... (or the gtl as cow suggested, just remember to add your questions to the sgf - read the instructions there first) as far as your problem, you might consider going for non fuseki problems at first as there's a lot of uncertainty surrounding this part of the game among us weak amateurs (and a wrong fuseki problem might stay online longer misleading ppl whereas a life/death problem will normally be corrected relatively fast)... =)
